MALPASS RESIDENCE

The Malpass Residence is 2,000 square foot home & office for a young couple. The owners needed both a flexible, open living space and a private, acoustically separate recording studio within their dwelling. The solution in this design is to separate the recording studio from the dwelling with a carport. The studio is partially buried in the ground, offering more sound absorption. The walls and roof of the studio are planted. The roof is used as a tiki garden & movie screening area. The interior of the dwelling uses the double height volume for the main living spaces, maximizing the amount of natural light penetration into the ancillary spaces.  The open circulation paths around the central plywood-clad media tower allow unobstructed views of the exterior in both the bedroom and living room areas.
